Project description


The Core Banking Programme (CBP) is responsible for implementing a new Core Banking application in Nordea.


This role is within CBP and is responsible for ensuring the core banking application (Ncore) is tuned for performance, reliability and availability. The successful applicant is expected to be able to provide expert level advice on Temenos T24 application tuning, weblogic configuration, database design, configuration, implementation and application utilisation to achieve these goals and ensure the application  is operating optimally at all times. In addition, this role is expected to be hands on in terms of issue identification, resolution and monitoring.


As the Performance Engineer you will be accountable for:

  • Performance test design, execution and reporting
  • Proactively identifying performance and reliability issues and working to resolve them
  • Development of application and system observability through metrics and monitoring
  • Collaborating with other technology experts to determine optimum configurations
  • Troubleshooting problems related to application performance in both production and non-production environments 
  • Participating and supporting production go-live activities


You will be expected to contribute to answering the following types of questions:

  • How is the application looking in terms of health/performance?
  • Anything bad happening (expensive DB statements, warnings / alerts, performance degradation)?
  • What are the dominant workloads and where should we focus our performance tuning efforts? 
  • How are the performance metrics trending? Are there any potential problems emerging? 
  • Are there any recurring patterns of behaviour that can be identified that lead to incidents?
  • Do we have all the right maintenance procedures in place to ensure optimal performance? Are we following all the best practices for configuration for optimal performance? 


To succeed in this role you need to be confident in:   

  • Significant experience with Java development with experience troubleshooting java code.
  • Optimising JVM configuration for performance
  • Experience with performance testing tools such as jMeter and LoadRunner
  • Ideally you will have a some experience in performance testing
  • Application Server Troubleshooting including thread locks, memory leaks, GC tuning etc
  • Experience with metrics and monitoring tooling, such as AppDynamics, Dynatrace or similar and Splunk, Grafana or similar


Additionally, it will be beneficial if you have:   

  • Oracle OSB and Oracle database experience
  • Advanced SQL, PL/SQL tuning knowledge  
  • Exposure to code/memory profiling tools such as JProbe, JProfiler etc.


We also expect that you:

  • Are experienced in working with agile methodologies
  • Have good English language skills to freely communicate with stakeholders (also native speakers)
