DevOps Engineer

Helsinki, FI, 00500

Job ID: 5145

We're an award-winning insurance company looking for a DevOps Engineer who believes that production infrastructure deserves the same rigour and quality discipline as the code it delivers.

Welcome to Nordea Life & Pension Finland. We are a solvent Finnish life insurance company and part of the Nordea Group, but we are not Nordea Bank’s everyday banking business. Our focus is on life insurance, savings and pension-related products, and while Nordea Bank acts as an important distribution channel and agent for several of our products, Nordea Life & Pension has its own business domain, products and dedicated IT organisation.

About this opportunity

Nordea Life & Pension Finland combines the strengths of a specialised insurance company with the backing of a large financial group. We are much smaller than Nordea Bank, which means closer collaboration, shorter decision paths and strong ownership in day-to-day work. At the same time, because we are part of the Nordea Group, the role also requires the ability to work across shared platforms, common processes and a larger enterprise environment. We are a small company recognized repeatedly as Finland's best financial sector workplace by Great Place to Work and winner of the Finnish Quality Award. Quality is not a project; it is part of how we think. We do things properly, improve continuously, and keep structures light so people can focus on meaningful work.

We are building a DevOps capability with clear standards from the start. Infrastructure is version controlled, peer reviewed, and deployed through the same discipline we expect of application code. The wider Nordea Group provides shared platform capabilities, but the operational quality of what you build belongs to you. Your focus is CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, container orchestration, monitoring, and the automation that lets the team deploy confidently and roll back safely. You'll work alongside software developers, AI team, and platform engineers. The infrastructure you build will increasingly support AI and machine learning workloads as we scale those capabilities across the business. As our DevOps Engineer, you are a senior technical voice in this team. You shape how we deliver software to production.

What you'll be doing:

  • Define and evolve our deployment standards, tooling choices, and infrastructure patterns
  • Make security, compliance and reliability decisions for infrastructure in a regulated environment
  • Design, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, building, and deployment
  • Manage and develop infrastructure as code across cloud and on-premises environments
  • Own container orchestration, provisioning and environment management
  • Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and observability for production systems
  • Collaborate with development teams to improve developer experience and deployment velocity

Our stack is Java, Python, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, and Git. We operate primarily in private cloud and on-premises environments, with AWS available where it fits. We prefer deterministic deployments, immutable artifacts, and minimal manual intervention.

This role is located in our Helsinki (Kaisaniemi) office. Ideal starting is as soon as possible.

Who you are

You think about infrastructure the way a good engineer thinks about code: readable, testable, predictable. You've seen what happens when configuration drifts and when monitoring is added too late. You build systems where recovery is automated, deployments are repeatable, and reliability comes from structure rather than individual effort.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in production environments
  • Strong skills in infrastructure as code (Terraform or similar)
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and container orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g. Splunk, AppDynamics)
  • Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash or similar)
  • Experience with Camunda is considered an advantage
  • Working proficiency in Finnish and English
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field

It would be beneficial if you know/have/can:

  • Experience with Jenkins pipeline development and maintenance
  • GitOps practices and version-controlled infrastructure workflows
  • Air-gapped or isolated environment deployment
  • Data privacy, GDPR and security considerations for production workloads

Please note, showing strengths in one area compensates for shortcomings in another. We encourage you to submit your application and briefly elaborate if that is something you are motivated to learn.

What we offer

We believe that great people deserve great benefits, so we offer you:

  • High autonomy and ownership
  • Real influence on architecture and engineering standards
  • Hybrid working: 60% onsite and 40% remote
  • Lunch (on top of salary), sport & culture benefit
  • Banking benefits, e.g., personnel mortgage margin and free daily banking services
