Expert AI Engineer (Group Finance)
Helsinki, FI, 00500
Job ID: 3339
About this opportunity
We are looking for an Expert AI Engineer to join the AI & Automation team in Group Finance. The team works across Nordea’s financial steering and regulatory landscape, supporting capital and liquidity management, risk and control processes, regulatory reporting, and the broader Group Finance value chain.
Our mission is simple: use AI and modern engineering practises to make Finance more value-adding, efficient and forward-looking. We are building AI foundations that support real Finance work — with the quality, governance and scalability needed in a large financial institution.
As our AI portfolio grows, the role is to ensure that individual solutions develop into a coherent, scalable and well-governed AI capability for Group Finance. You will work closely with developers, engineers, business stakeholders, architects and governance partners to turn complex Finance needs into practical, robust and well-governed AI solutions. The role is hands-on and influential: you will build solutions yourself, guide technical and design choices and help establish how Finance applies AI at scale.
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you will be the technical lead for how AI solutions are designed, engineered and scaled in Group Finance. You will combine hands-on engineering with responsibility for the reusable patterns, standards and solution design practices that our AI delivery builds on.
You will:
- Own the reusable AI patterns, building blocks and engineering standards that guide how AI solutions are built in Group Finance.
- Design and engineer AI-driven solutions on Nordea's enterprise and cloud platforms, using both established and emerging AI capabilities.
- Partner with Finance subject matter experts to reimagine processes and design AI-enabled solutions that change how work is performed.
- Develop high-quality, production-ready Python code, setting the bar for maintainable, testable and reusable components.
- Lead technical design discussions and reviews, helping engineers make sound architectural and implementation choices.
- Evaluate new AI tools, architectures and approaches for use in a regulated environment.
- Communicate technical direction, solution trade-offs and delivery implications to senior stakeholders and decision forums, influencing decisions through strong technical insight.
You will join a team of 6, located across the Nordics and in Poland with a diverse and complementary skillset. The role is based in Helsinki FI.
Who you are
You are an experienced engineer with strong technical depth in software engineering and applied AI. You are motivated by solving complex business problems and building solutions that are robust, scalable and usable in practice.
You combine hands-on engineering capability with the ability to deliver results beyond your own individual contributions. You can shape the technical approach, guide design choices and help engineers deliver better solutions, while staying close enough to the work to understand the details. You are comfortable operating in a complex organisation, balancing technical ambition with governance, security and delivery realities.
To succeed in this role, we believe that you:
- Take ownership of complex technical topics and follow through until outcomes are delivered.
- Set direction within your area of expertise and create clarity around priorities, dependencies and trade-offs.
- Have strong technical judgement and are comfortable making decisions where there is ambiguity
- Care about the quality of the team’s engineering output, not only the quality of your own work.
- Can influence across teams and align stakeholders around a common technical direction, also where delivery depends on people outside your direct control.
Your experience and background:
- Master's degree in computer science, finance, economics, engineering, statistics or equivalent.
- 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with significant experience leading the design and delivery of production-grade systems.
- Proven experience designing, building and operationalising applied AI and ML-based solutions in regulated environments.
- Experience with cloud-based development at scale, including containerised and orchestrated workloads.
- Track record of owning architecture or technical direction for production systems.
- Strong professional Python development experience.
- Nice-to-have: Multi-agent or agentic system design.
