Senior Business Risk Manager, Nordea Mortgage Bank Plc
Helsinki, FI, 00500
Job ID: 4738
We are looking for a Senior Business Risk Manager to join Nordea Mortgage Bank Plc. This is an exceptional opportunity to work in a role that combines strategic oversight, regulatory governance, business risk management and stakeholder collaboration across Nordea. As a key member of the NMB team, you will have a unique vantage point into the management and development of the mortgage bank that plays a critical role in Nordea's funding and mortgage business. You will work closely with senior management and experts across the Nordea Group, helping to strengthen risk culture, proactively drive risk management and ensure robust governance in a complex and evolving regulatory environment.
The Senior Business Risk Manager role offers broad responsibilities, significant ownership and excellent opportunities to develop your expertise within risk management, outsourcing oversight and internal governance. Most importantly, you will join a highly skilled and supportive team where collaboration, trust and knowledge sharing are part of everyday work.
About our team
Welcome to Nordea Mortgage Bank plc (NMB) – a specialized bank within Nordea and a key contributor to the Group's mortgage and funding business. NMB issues covered bonds backed by Finnish mortgage assets and serves as an important funding vehicle for Nordea. While operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Nordea, the Mortgage Bank has its own governance responsibilities and regulatory obligations, creating a unique environment where business, risk management, compliance and strategic decision-making come together. With a balance sheet that places it among Finland's largest banks, NMB offers a rare opportunity to work in an organization where your contribution is visible, your responsibilities are meaningful and your work directly supports both customers and the wider Nordea Group.
Collaboration. Ownership. Passion. Courage. These are the values that guide us in how we work and how we make decisions – and that we imagine you share with us.
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you will help ensure that risks are proactively identified, managed and reported while supporting business leaders in strengthening governance, control frameworks and risk awareness.
Main responsibilities in this role:
- Acting as a trusted advisor to management on business risk, governance and regulatory matters.
- Driving the management, monitoring and reporting of non-financial risks across the organization.
- Leading the Mortgage Bank's outsourcing oversight activities and ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements.
- Assessing and developing risk and control processes to strengthen the overall risk management framework.
- Partnering with business experts, agreement owners and senior stakeholders to strengthen governance and ensure effective oversight of outsourced services.
- Supporting the development of a strong risk and compliance culture through guidance, training and continuous stakeholder engagement.
- Participating in strategic initiatives, business development and change activities to ensure risks are adequately understood and managed.
- Drive Nordic scale benefits through close collaboration with Nordea colleagues across the Nordics.
Who you are
You thrive in environments where you can combine analytical thinking, business understanding and stakeholder collaboration.
This is the right role for you if you:
- Take ownership and enjoy working with complex and business-critical topics.
- Have a strong risk-based mindset and a genuine interest in governance, risk management and regulatory matters.
- Build trusted relationships across organisational boundaries and communicate effectively with stakeholders across the three lines of defense.
- Are organised, proactive and comfortable managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Enjoy both strategic discussions and practical execution.
- Are curious, eager to learn and motivated by continuous development.
Your background and skills include:
- At least five years of experience within banking, financial services, risk management, compliance or a related field.
- You thrive in a collaborative environment and are comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong understanding of business risk management, internal governance and regulatory requirements.
- Experience working with risk frameworks, controls, oversight activities or compliance-related processes.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in Finnish and English.
- Relevant university degree in finance, economics, law, business administration or another applicable field.
In this position you report to the COO of NMB and are a member of the COO team. It would be ideal if you also have previous experience in Intragroup Outsourcing.
