Senior IT Developer - Data Engineering & Warehousing (Python | SQL | Cloud)
Helsinki, FI, 00500
Job ID: 4412
Welcome to Group Technology, where we pride ourselves on engineering solutions and direct Nordea’s transformation by providing a holistic technological view and structured understanding of the bank, and its surrounding environment to enable the Customer Vision and the Business Strategy.
We are seeking a Senior IT Developer for Data Engineering & Warehousing — a hands-on engineering role for someone who wants to redefine how data warehousing is built and operated.
This is not a role about maintaining pipeline sprawl. We want to move away from repetitive, manually engineered warehouse delivery toward reusable automation, stronger platform capabilities, and faster paths from trusted data to business value. We are looking for someone who learns fast, drives change proactively, and wants to build better ways of working with AI as part of everyday engineering.
About our team
Welcome to the Trading Data Warehouse & BI team. We work close to stakeholders supporting one of the largest trading environments in the Nordics, where trusted data, speed, and reliability matter. Our challenge is to deliver data faster and with less manual effort, while improving quality and building a more scalable engineering model for the future.
You'll join a team of enthusiastic data professionals across Scandinavia, Poland and India. This role is based in Finland.
What you'll be doing
Data Engineering & Development:
- Help define and build a new way of doing data warehousing — shifting from project-style delivery toward reusable capabilities, stronger platforms, and end-to-end automation
- Build the Python, SQL, and platform foundations that turn manual warehouse work into scalable engineering solutions
- Design data products and models that bring trusted data closer to business users and shorten the path from engineering work to business value
- Drive end-to-end warehousing automation — from ingestion and transformation to controls, publishing, and consumption
- Improve quality and reliability through testing, validation, and simple, maintainable engineering practices
AI & Transformation:
- Actively leverage AI tools in your daily development workflow — we see AI as a practical accelerator for engineering, automation, testing, and operational work
- Help shape a more AI-enabled, automation-first way of working across data warehousing
- Challenge legacy delivery patterns and propose pragmatic, modern alternatives that improve speed, quality, and leverage
- Identify where AI and automation can remove repetitive work, simplify operations, and improve how data is delivered to the business
- Contribute to building a culture where experimentation, learning, and continuous improvement are part of the job
DevOps & Automation:
- Improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment practices for data workflows
- Work with Docker and container-based development and deployment workflows
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability for critical data processes
- Automate repetitive tasks and operational processes wherever manual work limits scale or speed
Collaboration & Growth:
- Participate in code reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, and team ceremonies
- Collaborate with Tech Leads and architects to refine technical standards
- Proactively share learnings and contribute to internal documentation, engineering practices, and team standards
- Bring curiosity, initiative, and a strong learning mindset to both technical work and team development
- Support and mentor junior colleagues
Who you are
Your background and skills include:
- 4+ years of experience in data engineering or software development
- Strong Python and SQL skills — you write code daily and enjoy it
- Experience with cloud data platforms (Snowflake, or similar such as BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks)
- Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tools (Git, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar)
- Understanding of data modelling and warehousing fundamentals
- Curiosity and willingness to embrace AI-assisted development — you see AI as a tool to amplify your capabilities
- Willingness to embrace AI-assisted development and use AI as a practical way to amplify your capabilities and impact
- Strong learning agility — you are eager to develop your skills, learn continuously, and grow your impact as an engineer
- An open-minded and proactive approach to change
- A builder mentality — you want to improve how things work, not just operate within existing pattern
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience
It would be ideal if you also have:
- Experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, or similar)
- Exposure to infrastructure-as-code or configuration management
- Experience in a financial services or regulated environment
- Interest in data quality frameworks and automated testing, or self-service data capabilities.
Why join us now
