Senior IT Developer - Engineering & Automation (Python | SQL | Cloud)

Helsinki, FI, 00500

Job ID: 4412

Welcome to Group Technology, where we pride ourselves on engineering solutions and direct Nordea’s transformation by providing a holistic technological view and structured understanding of the bank, and its surrounding environment to enable the Customer Vision and the Business Strategy.

We are seeking a versatile Senior IT Developer for a hands-on engineering role solving a broad range of technical problems across applications, data, platforms, and automation. Our immediate opportunities include modernising how data warehousing is built and operated, but we are looking first and foremost for an adaptable engineer who can understand a problem, choose a pragmatic solution, and take it through to production.

This is not a narrowly defined specialist role. You may work on a Python service, improve a deployment pipeline, automate an operational process, investigate a production issue, or simplify a warehouse workflow. We are looking for someone who learns fast, works comfortably across boundaries, drives change proactively, and uses AI as a practical part of everyday engineering.

About our team

Welcome to the Trading Data Warehouse & BI team. We work closely with stakeholders supporting one of the largest trading environments in the Nordics, where dependable systems, trusted data, speed, and reliability matter. Although warehousing is central to our current landscape, our challenges span software development, integration, cloud platforms, automation, and production operations. We want to solve them with less manual effort and a more scalable engineering model. You'll join a team of enthusiastic data professionals across Scandinavia, Poland and India. This role is based in Finland.

What you'll be doing

Engineering & Problem Solving:

  • Solve varied engineering problems across services, integrations, data flows, platforms, and operational tooling.
  • Design and build maintainable solutions using Python, SQL, APIs, cloud services, and the most appropriate tools for the problem.
  • Help evolve data warehousing from project-style delivery toward reusable capabilities, stronger platforms, and end-to-end automation.
  • Work across the full delivery lifecycle, from understanding a business need through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Improve quality and reliability through automated testing, validation, observability, and simple engineering practices.

AI & Transformation:

  • Use AI tools thoughtfully in your daily development workflow as a practical accelerator for analysis, coding, testing, documentation, and operational work.
  • Help shape a more AI-enabled, automation-first way of working across the team.
  • Challenge legacy delivery patterns and propose pragmatic alternatives that improve speed, quality, and maintainability.
  • Identify where software and automation can remove repetitive work, simplify operations, and improve outcomes for users.
  • Contribute to building a culture where experimentation, learning, and continuous improvement are part of the job.

DevOps & Automation:

  • Improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment practices across our software and data workflows.
  • Work with Docker and container-based development and deployment workflows.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability for critical services and processes.
  • Automate repetitive tasks and operational processes wherever manual work limits scale or speed.

Collaboration & Growth:

  • Participate in code reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, and team ceremonies.
  • Collaborate with Tech Leads and architects to refine technical standards.
  • Proactively share learnings and contribute to internal documentation, engineering practices, and team standards.
  • Bring curiosity, initiative, and a strong learning mindset to both technical work and team development
  • Support and mentor junior colleagues.

Who you are

Your background and skills include:

  •  4+ years of experience in software development, data engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, or a related technical field.
  • Strong programming and problem-solving skills, with practical experience in Python and SQL.
  • Experience building and operating production solutions in cloud or enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tools (Git, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar).
  • Ability to move between application code, data, infrastructure, and operational concerns when solving a problem.
  • Working knowledge of data modelling and warehousing fundamentals, or the ability to learn them quickly.
  • Curiosity and willingness to embrace AI-assisted development — you see AI as a tool to amplify your capabilities.
  • A builder mentality — you want to improve how things work, not just operate within existing patterns.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

It would be ideal if you also have:

  • Experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, or similar).
  • Exposure to infrastructure-as-code or configuration management.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Databricks.
  • Experience in a financial services or regulated environment.
  • Interest in data quality frameworks and automated testing, or self-service data capabilities

Why join us now

We are at a point where the old way of scaling warehousing work is no longer enough. Our team is actively:

  • Adopting AI at scale — using AI as a practical accelerator for development, testing, automation, and daily engineering work.
  • Transforming our way of working — moving from manually intensive delivery toward more proactive, automation-driven engineering.
  • Building a stronger engineering culture — raising expectations around ownership, learning, simplicity, and impact.
  • Modernizing our platform — improving developer experience, reducing manual work, and raising the bar on engineering quality.

This is an opportunity to join at a pivotal moment and help shape both the technology and the operating model behind it. If you enjoy tackling unfamiliar problems and want to build a more automated, AI-enabled engineering environment, this is the right time to join.
