Senior Legal Counsel (permanent position)

 

We are looking for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join Technology and Sourcing Legal team in Helsinki. The position is permanent and start date as soon as possible. This is an opportunity for you to work in an international, dynamic, and strategically important area in the financial services industry.

 

About our team

 

Meet the Technology and Sourcing Legal team. Our role is to support Nordea by delivering high-quality legal advice across a rapidly evolving digital, technical, and regulatory environment. We play a key role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal risks across Nordea’s technology and supplier landscape, advising on strategic technology initiatives and shaping Nordea’s legal position on ICT, data, outsourcing, cloud, and platform services, third-party risk management, operational and digital resilience, and emerging technologies including AI.

 

Our team in Group Legal provides legal services across the Nordea group companies and several jurisdictions within EU/EEA. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, we help enable secure, compliant and future-proof solutions and represent Nordea in discussions with authorities and external partners.

Main responsibilities in this role: 

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating ICT, sourcing, outsourcing, AI-related, and other third-party agreements
  • Giving advice to senior management and key stakeholders on ICT and contract law, including outsourcing, cloud, and platform services, third-party risk management, operational and digital resilience, and emerging technologies such as AI
  • Participating in regulatory and industry working groups and cross-unit projects, acting as a legal subject-matter expert
  • Assessing, interpreting, and supporting the implementation of new regulation, including digital operational resilience, AI governance and data-related frameworks
  • Delivering legal training and guidance on technology, regulatory, and risk-related topics

 

Who you are

 

This is the right role for you if you are a strong legal professional with in-depth expertise in the relevant legal areas, high integrity, and a clear sense of responsibility. You combine excellent analytical and communication skills with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset, enabling you to make sound decisions and translate complex legal matters into clear and practical advice. You work well both independently and as part of a team, approaching your work in a structured and methodical way with a positive, service-oriented attitude.

 

Your background and skills include: 

  • Finnish master’s degree in law
  • 6+ years relevant working experience as an in-house legal counsel or in a law firm
  • Fluency in English and Finnish, other Nordic languages are an asset
  • Previous experience in technology, data, and contract law as well as  ICT, sourcing and outsourcing agreements

 

It would be ideal if you also: 

  • Financial services industry regulation, data protection, and authority interactions
