System/Technical Architect (core insurance platform)

Helsinki, FI, 00500

Job ID: 4287

Are you passionate about shaping the future of insurance technology? As a System/Technical Architect at Nordea Life & Pension Finland, you will play a key role in the architecture of our core insurance platform and help ensure long-term technical quality, maintainability and fit for business needs.

Welcome to Nordea Life & Pension Finland. We are a solvent Finnish life insurance company and part of the Nordea Group, but we are not Nordea Bank’s everyday banking business. Our focus is on life insurance, savings and pension-related products. In practice, Nordea Bank acts as an important distribution channel and agent for several of our products, while Nordea Life & Pension has its own business domain, products and dedicated IT organization.

About this opportunity

Nordea Life & Pension Finland combines the strengths of a specialized insurance company with the backing of a large financial group. We are much smaller than Nordea Bank, which means closer collaboration, shorter decision paths and strong ownership in day-to-day work. At the same time, because we are part of the Nordea Group, the role also requires the ability to work across shared platforms, common processes and a larger enterprise environment.

In this role, you will own and develop application architecture for the core system, work closely with business stakeholders on a daily basis, and help shape solution decisions across integrations, platforms and product capabilities. This is a hands-on architecture role in a business-critical insurance environment where your work will have visible impact.

Main responsibilities in this role:

  • Own and develop the application architecture of the core system, with responsibility for architectural integrity, maintainability and technical quality
  • Work with business stakeholders on a daily basis to turn business needs into clear architectural choices, solution designs and practical roadmaps
  • Lead architecture related to integrations across the landscape, including Retail Digital, Group Technology and Nordea Life & Pension products and services
  • Collaborate closely with external delivery partners, primarily in Finland and India, and help steer solutions so they meet agreed architecture and non-functional requirements
  • Be part of the virtual architect community led by the Domain Architect and work in close cooperation with colleagues in the wider architecture and leadership setup
  • Navigate both a small-company way of working and the realities of a large-group environment; previous Nordea experience or understanding of how large organizations operate is considered an advantage

We're committed to:

  • DevOps culture: Embracing collaboration, automation, and continuous improvement
  • Modern technology: Building resilient IT landscape that evolves with business needs
  • Great workplace: Modern office in central Helsinki with close business collaboration
  • Strong culture: Supporting each other, sharing knowledge, and growing together

This role is based in Helsinki and follows a hybrid way of working. You will work in close contact with local business stakeholders and colleagues, while also collaborating across the broader Nordea environment. Ideally, the selected person could start in early June and join the next PI planning.

Who you are

We value:

  • Collaboration: You enjoy working with diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Ownership: You take responsibility for technical architecture and tech stack decisions
  • Passion: You're genuinely interested in solving technical problems and mentoring others
  • Courage: You're willing to challenge the status quo and drive necessary changes

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Strong architecture capability: proven experience in application or solution architecture, ideally in a core system or other business-critical environment.
  • Integration understanding: experience working with complex integrations across multiple systems, teams and enterprise stakeholders.
  • Business collaboration: ability to work closely with business stakeholders every day and communicate architecture decisions in a practical, understandable way.
  • Vendor collaboration: experience working with external partners and guiding delivery in a structured way.
  • Language skills: working proficiency in Finnish and fluent English, both written and spoken.

It would be beneficial if you know/have/are:

  • You already know Nordea from some perspective, for example through previous work, collaboration or understanding of the corporate environment.
  • You are resilient and steady under pressure, and you can work constructively through the challenges that come with a large organization.
  • You are comfortable building trust across business, architecture and delivery teams in a matrix-style environment.
  • You stay structured and persistent when solving complex architecture and stakeholder challenges.
  • You know how to balance quality, progress and pragmatism in a regulated business environment.
  • You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences and can facilitate alignment across teams.
  • You appreciate the opportunity to work in a specialized life and pension company that still benefits from the reach and stability of the wider Nordea Group.

Please note, showing strengths in one area compensates for shortcomings in another. We encourage you to submit your application and briefly elaborate if that is something you are motivated to learn.

What we offer

We believe that great people deserve great benefits, and we offer a role where you can combine the close collaboration of a smaller specialist company with the opportunities and stability of the wider Nordea Group:

  • Lunch (on top of the salary), sport & culture benefit
  • Banking benefits, e.g. personnel mortgage margin and free daily banking services
  • Modern office above metro station and close to train station
