Tech Lead - AI Platforms & Cloud

Helsinki, FI, 500 Gdynia, PL, 81-537 Gdańsk, PL, 80-309

Job ID: 31720

Welcome to Core Technology, where we pride ourselves on engineering solutions and platforms with a direct impact to Nordea´s 2030 strategy goals to modernize our data technology state and accelerate AI across the organization.

We are looking for a Tech Lead responsible for our AI & Cloud Platform in our Data-AI-Integration team. You will join a small, agile team with a mandate to drive impact across Nordea. Your success after one year means we have a robust, reusable platform with happy internal customers running in production.

About our team

Welcome to the Data-AI-Integration team. We are building the next-generation AI backbone for Nordea. This is not a maintenance role; you will lead the technical vision and execution for a centralized, opinionated AI Platform that balances rapid delivery with banking-grade security. Your mission is to guide a team of engineers in designing, building, and scaling infrastructure that enables predictive and generative AI use cases to move from concept to production safely and efficiently.

This is a fulltime permanent position with a hybrid working location in either Helsinki, Finland, or Gdansk / Gdynia, Poland.

What you’ll be doing

Main responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Set the engineering direction for the AI platform, ensuring architectural integrity and scalability, and while you lead, you also code — designing production-grade services, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure that meets the demands of a highly regulated industry
  • Coach engineers, foster best practices, and help build a strong engineering culture
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Data Scientists, and Security teams to align technical decisions with business priorities, while staying ahead of emerging AI technologies (LLMs, agentic workflows) and guide pragmatic adoption
  • Own the technical roadmap and ensure robust, reusable patterns for AI workflows and maintain high-quality engineering practices across the team
  • Evaluate trade-offs between speed, scalability, and compliance and ensure platform reliability and lead resolution of critical issues
  • Translate technical complexity into clear updates for non-technical stakeholders

Who you are

This is the right role for you if:

  • You are a Cloud Native Expert: Proven experience designing and building production-quality applications or services on AWS and other cloud providers
  • You are Engineering-Driven: You treat infrastructure as software. You are comfortable writing Python and managing complex environments with Terraform
  • You lead by example: You combine technical depth with the ability to inspire and guide others
  • You stay ahead of the curve: You have a genuine interest in AI and know how to apply new concepts pragmatically

Your background and skills include:

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Risk Management, or a related discipline
  • 10+ years of experience in testing, maintaining, launching AI/ML products, working with MLOps best practices and DevOps environment (CI/CD pipelines, Docker, container orchestration)
  • Extensive and documented experience from working as a leader in a technical environment, heavily focused on AI and Cloud
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to prepare and drive presentations in multiple stakeholders meetings, as well as the ability to be a subject matter expert on the AI & Cloud Platform
  • Experience in training, evaluation, fine-tuning and deployment of predictive models; including feature selection, hyper-parameter tuning, error analysis and data visualization
  • Vast experience and track record of successfully working with the following tech stacks:
    - Infrastructure as Code: Terraform (Essential), Python
    - AI/ML Platform: Amazon SageMaker, AWS Bedrock, AgentCore
    - Data Platform: S3, AWS Glue, Lake Formation
    - Languages: Python (Primary), SQL
  • Experience working with public cloud providers (AWS, Azure or GCP), especially their serverless, ML (e.g., AWS SageMaker), or data storage services as well as Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Skilled at transforming complex ideas into clear, engaging explanations—whether you're presenting to a technical team or breaking things down for non-experts

It would be ideal if you also:

  • Have professional experience from working in regulated industries, i.e. Banking, Government, etc.
