Technical Lead for Analytics Area in Data & Analytics team
Helsinki, FI, 00500 Oulu, FI, 90230
Job ID: 6383
We are looking for a Technical Lead to join the Analytics area within Service Domain Data & Analytics on a full-time, permanent employment agreement to lead the machine learning model pipeline capability team.
About our team
Our role is to harness the power of big data to drive smarter business decisions and build machine learning pipelines that productize business models across the Nordic countries.
You will be leading a team of data scientists and machine learning engineers within the Data & Analytics domain in Digital Technology. The team is based in Helsinki or Oulu, Finland, with close collaboration across the Data & Analytics Hub. You will serve as the technical anchor and lead engineer for our machine learning model pipeline capability, which supports business analytics and commercial use cases across the Nordic countries.
You as the Leader, play a key role in developing and supporting your team members to reach their aspirations and unleash their full potential.
Collaboration. Ownership. Passion. Courage. These are the values that guide us in how we work and how we make decisions – and that we imagine you share with us.
What you’ll be doing
Main responsibilities in this role:
- Technical Leadership: Act as the technical authority for the ML model pipeline capability. Define engineering standards, reference architectures, model lifecycle patterns, and reliable ways of working for your team.
- ML Pipeline Engineering & Platform Enhancement: Lead the design and hands-on development of end-to-end pipelines covering feature preparation, model evaluation, validation, deployment, and monitoring. Lead the development of the platform built on top of AWS SageMaker, reducing manual steps and improving speed, reliability, and repeatability.
- Data Integration & Feature Engineering: Integrate model pipelines with trusted Customer 360 data products and the Snowflake data platform. Establish reproducible feature datasets and training flows.
- Model Quality, Observability & Governance: Implement model validation, drift detection, performance monitoring, latency tracking, auditability, and responsible AI practices. Standardize deployment patterns and improve model promotion across environments while working within security and cloud-governance constraints.
- Continuous Improvement & Collaborative Governance: Continuously identify and implement ways to improve the team's engineering effectiveness, delivery flow, quality, and developer experience. Evaluate, pilot, and scale responsible AI-powered workflows. Partner closely with data scientists, data engineers, domain architects, product owners, business stakeholders, and central security teams to align model delivery with Nordea's long-term technology strategy.
Who you are
This is the right role for you if you are a hands-on technical leader who leads by example, writes clean and maintainable code, and is passionate about mentoring others. You enjoy bridging the gap between business outcomes, data science, and the engineering discipline needed to run ML models reliably in production. You are comfortable working across model development, data platforms, cloud infrastructure, governance, and operational support. You continuously look for ways to improve team performance, shorten feedback loops, and make responsible use of AI-powered workflows. You possess strong coaching and communication skills, with the patience and structured approach needed to guide teams through a major platform transition.
Your background and skills include:
- Engineering Leadership: 5+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, machine learning engineering, or related technical fields, with at least 3 years leading engineering teams or acting as a Technical Lead in large-scale technology initiatives.
- Python & Engineering Practices: Strong proficiency in Python and production experience with modern engineering frameworks and libraries. Experience with data processing, analytics, or machine learning tooling such as Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow is beneficial.
- Platform Operations: Experience building, operating, and monitoring production-grade platforms, including observability, reliability, automation, incident analysis, and continuous improvement practices.
- Cloud Engineering: Strong knowledge of AWS services such as S3, IAM, and container or orchestration services, plus experience with infrastructure as code or CI/CD pipelines.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to explain complex technical architectures, platform designs, and migration plans clearly to both executive stakeholders and technical teams.
It would be ideal if you also:
- Have hands-on experience with AWS SageMaker, ML pipelines, model lifecycle management, or MLOps practices.
- Possess a strong understanding of Snowflake, Apache Iceberg, Spark, and data products that support analytics, feature engineering, or model development.
- Have experience with pseudonymization, responsible AI, data protection, model risk, and the controls needed to operate data and analytics solutions in a regulated environment.
As the Leader you are expected to and have a crucial role in:
- Creating purpose by translating strategy into operational and actionable plans to showcase how we create value for our customers and impact business priorities.
- Empowering people by identifying individual development opportunities to support growth and encourage them to share own ideas, concerns and learnings.
- Driving performance by recognising individual contributions and collective victories to maintain a healthy balance through measurable goals and clear priorities for each team member.
- Developing teams by nurturing a dynamic team culture, that emphasises trust and respect to ensure that everyone understands their unique value and contribution.
- Fostering inclusion by creating equal opportunity through curiosity about all aspects of diversity in your team to evaluate habits and perspectives on a continuous basis.
