Apply to shape the future of secure people practices at Nordea!
At Nordea, we are committed to protecting our people, our customers, and the trust placed in us every day. As we continue to strengthen our security culture, we are looking for a Vetting / Personnel Security Specialist with extensive experience in relation to recruitment processes, background checks and vetting procedures.
About the role
In this role, you will play an active part in driving the continuous development and implementation of background checks and vetting procedures in Nordea. You will work at the intersection of people, risk, and business, ensuring that we stay ahead of security insights and trends, while enabling effective and scalable solutions. Your ability to build trust, communicate clearly, and influence stakeholders is just as important as your subject-matter expertise, as you will work across functions, countries, and levels of seniority.
What you will do:
- Continuously develop and ensure the implementation of the right framework and criteria for background checks and vetting procedures across the full employee lifecycle to ensure alignment with risk, compliance, business expectations, and external market standards.
- Translate requirements and guidelines into clear, value adding processes and ways of working to ensure efficiency, risk management, and compliance.
- Cooperate with security vendors on the execution of background checks and vetting procedures to ensure that requirements are met and adapted when relevant.
- Cooperate with internal stakeholders to ensure robust and integrated risk management and to coordinate and drive processes forward together towards key strategic targets.
- Guide decision making and help further cultivate a strong security mindset across the organisation.
Location: The position can be based in either Helsinki, Copenhagen, Stockholm, or Oslo.
Your experience and background
You have a strong blend of strategic thinking, security expertise and the ability to build robust organizational practices and influence across complex organizations. Specifically, you bring:
- Extensive experience within Vetting/Personnel Security, People Risk Management, or related security domains, including setting standards, governing supplier/service delivery, and balancing risk and compliance in a regulated environment.
- A relevant Master’s degree or an equivalent professional experience.
- Strong governance and risk management capabilities with the ability to set structure, direction, and alignment across stakeholders.
- Integrity and trust as your core values and excellent collaboration and stakeholder management skills, enabling you to challenge, support and guide leaders at all levels with confidence and credibility.
- Experience working cross border and in complex organizational landscapes with the ability to navigate diverse stakeholder needs.
- Full proficiency (spoken and written) in both English and at least one Nordic language and enjoy working across countries and cultures as we operate in a Nordic, cross border environment.
What we offer
- A culture that supports performance and growth, with opportunities to learn from colleagues with diverse backgrounds.
- Hybrid working model – we value bringing people together while also supporting flexibility.
- Good pension arrangements and employee benefits in line with Nordea’s offerings.
At Nordea, you will join a team under Group People where you can develop your professional skills, take ownership, and make an impact. You will help shape a critical area of our operating model and have the opportunity to build something truly meaningful—at scale.
At Nordea, we know that an inclusive workplace is a sustainable workplace. We deeply believe that our diverse backgrounds, experiences, characteristics, and traits make us better at serving customers and communities. So please come as you are.
