We are looking for our new Compliance Officer (“CO”) with an emphasis on quality assurance (“QA”) and Know-Your-Customer (“KYC”) to partner with our compliance team in New York in executing our AML/CFT and sanctions compliance program as well as assist with other areas of compliance.

As the Compliance Officer, you will play a vital role in assisting the NY Compliance Team in creating a trustworthy and valuable partnership with your Nordea New York branch colleagues.

What you’ll be doing
Our new CO will focus primarily on quality assurance and Know-Your-Customer, ensuring that the branch’s AML/CFT program has tailored, effective monitoring of relevant first-line activities, especially within the customer lifecycle of onboarding and periodic reviews. The CO will also address escalations related to exposure to higher-risk AML/CFT elements, such as politically exposed persons. The CO will report directly to the NY Head of Compliance. S/he/x is expected to quickly become fluent in the essential work flow processes and branch risk profile and then seek to enhance the process through initiative and collaboration among peers.
You will become responsible for:
- Conducting periodic reviews of AML/CFT processes to assess compliance with internal controls, especially within the branch’s KYC function.
- Addressing KYC escalations to the NY Financial Crimes Compliance Team for higher-risk files, ensuring enhanced due diligence addresses the underlying risks identified.
- Raising and identifying issues that are non-compliant with AML/CFT and sanctions regulations.
- Reviewing audit, regulatory, and self-identified findings to ensure sufficiency of the scope of quality assurance.
- Ensuring documentation for reviewed processes is complete and accurate.
- Supporting the BSA/AML Officer in internal and external audits by reviewing and preparing documentation.
- Assisting the BSA/AML Officer in addressing findings or deficiencies from internal or external reviews.
- Providing recommendations for process improvements.
- Assisting with reporting of management information systems.
- Supporting the swap dealer and broker dealer Chief Compliance Officers with regulatory reporting and various other responsibilities as needed.
Additionally, you will contribute your talents to assist in the overall development of the NY Branch compliance programs. This means you will need to be open-minded and ready to accept challenges. You will also be well structured, a strong communicator, attentive to detail, have a proven record in providing insights and feedback and collaborating for the further benefit of the team, the team's stakeholders and the bank.
Be prepared for the expectation of offering good ideas as well as executing and working hands on to see things through to completion. This role is based on-site in New York City with a hybrid working schedule (employees may work from home up to 40% of the available working days each month).

Your experience and background:
- 5+ years of relevant financial crimes compliance experience.
- Experience in other areas of compliance a plus.
- Proven track record of providing feedback and assessing quality against defined standards.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Strong English skills both written and spoken.
- CAMs Certification or equivalent preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Data analysis skills are preferred.

Further Information: The NY Branch Compliance Team consists of approximately eight FTEs. We are collectively responsible for the New York Branch’s management and execution of its AML/CFT and sanctions compliance program, corporate compliance program, and the swap dealer and broker dealer compliance programs.
Please note: This position will be based on-site in New York City and will be subject to local hiring terms and conditions. To be considered for the role, the candidate must be eligible to work in the US either directly or via a visa-sponsorship - provided by the bank. A hybrid work schedule is available.
Salary Range: USD $150,000 - $175,000
