Senior Operational Analyst in Settlement (NAM Portugal)
Paço de Arcos, PT, 2770-131
Job ID: 7249
Trade volumes are growing, regulatory deadlines (e.g. CSDR) are getting tighter, and post-trade processes are becoming more complex. The move to T+1 settlement in Europe is the next major market change: it will shorten the window to match, resolve and settle trades, and make automation and early exception handling essential. At Nordea Asset Management, we're answering that with smarter, more automated ways of working, and we need someone to help us do it.
As part of our Settlement team in Portugal, you'll own the settlement outcome for Securities (Equities, Fixed Income, Repos). That means making sure trades settle on time, and that fails, exceptions and market issues are resolved at root cause. You'll work daily with custodians, brokers and internal stakeholders across Europe and beyond.
You'll join a Back Office of 41 colleagues from 9 nationalities, in a team that values ownership, collaboration and speaking up. Our strategy is to move routine operational tasks to automation and AI agents, so the team is evolving from processing transactions to owning outcomes: exceptions, data, controls and continuous improvement. You won't just run the process. You'll help redesign it by reducing manual work, increasing STP, supervising automated flows and using data to see where we can do better.
Your focus will be Securities settlement. Over time you'll have the opportunity to broaden into areas such as cash and claims resolution (e.g. interest claims, CSDR penalties) and data and automation ownership, becoming a versatile post-trade professional.
You will be a key player in this transition:
- The role is based in Oeiras (Quinta da Fonte).
- It’s expected you to work 100% on-site in the first 2 months and after on an Hybrid regime (3 days from Office + 2 days from home).
What you'll be doing:
- Act as expert and escalation point for complex settlement fails, exceptions and market issues (Equity & Bonds), working with counterparties, custodians and internal stakeholders on root-cause resolution.
- Analyse settlement data, fail patterns and process performance to identify trends, risks and opportunities for automation.
- Help design, test and implement automated and AI-enabled solutions, including defining use cases, business rules, exception logic and acceptance criteria.
- Supervise and validate the output of automated processes and agents, ensuring quality, control and regulatory compliance.
- Drive change: plan and support the rollout of new processes and tools, engage stakeholders, and help colleagues adopt new ways of working.
- Document processes, controls and decisions so that knowledge is structured, reusable and machine-readable.
- Share knowledge and coach colleagues, particularly junior team members, in analytical and improvement-oriented thinking.
- Participate in stakeholder meetings and projects across Operations, Technology and Business.
Who you are
Collaboration. Ownership. Passion. Courage. These four values guide us in being at our best. You enjoy learning, bring ideas to the table, speak up even when it's difficult, and empower others.
To do well in this role, we believe that you:
- Have an analytical, problem-solving mindset and look for root causes rather than quick fixes.
- Are curious about AI and automation and see them as tools to improve how work gets done.
- Are comfortable with change, and can help others through it with clear communication and empathy.
- Work well with others in a changing, international environment.
- Take initiative and challenge the status quo constructively.
Your experience and background:
- Solid experience in financial industry operations (we expect 5+ years), including hands-on knowledge of settlement and post-trade processes (Equity & Bonds).
- Strong analytical skills and comfort with large data sets. You are meticulous and good with figures and details.
- Experience contributing to process improvement, automation or change projects (e.g. requirements, testing, implementation, adoption).
- Proficient written and spoken English.
- Good to have:
- Power BI, Excel (advanced), Python, Power Automate or similar tools
- Practical experience with AI tools (e.g. Copilot, prompt design, workflow automation)
- Change management experience or training
- Simcorp Dimension, CTM, ALERT and SWIFT (Tieto)
None of these are prerequisites. Willingness to learn matters more.If this sounds like you, get in touch!
