We are looking for a skilled and collaborative Senior Forward Deployed AI Engineer to join our Forward Deployed AI team at Nordea. You will design and build scalable AI solutions, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver agentic AI applications that drive value across the organization while ensuring ethical and sustainable development practices.

Nordea is a place where traditions meet tomorrow. We are not just a bank; we are a tech employer on a mission to evolve finance securely and responsibly. Together, we impact millions of people's daily lives by ensuring they can access our solutions anytime, anywhere, while safeguarding their personal data and wealth. Join us in making an impact on the banking industry.

This position is a full-time, permanent role with hybrid working location based in Helsinki, Finland, Stockholm, Sweden, Gdańsk / Gdynia / Warsaw, Poland, or Copenhagen, Denmark.

About our team

Meet the Forward Deployed AI team. We are a collaborative and result-driven team working closely with every part of the bank to execute AI use cases. Our deep connections throughout Nordea and trusted reputation enable us to transform ambitious AI visions into practical, impactful solutions.

In this role, you will be embedded with the business areas, building strong partnerships and gaining deep domain expertise. This collaboration creates natural pathways for future career development, including potential transitions into business teams where your AI expertise will be highly valued.

Main responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to:

  • End-to-end delivery of impactful AI applications: architecture, implementation, integration, testing and production rollout.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, engineers and product teams to design and implement robust, maintainable AI systems that utilize AI/ML models, data pipelines, and orchestration layers.
  • Explore emerging AI tools and frameworks; share insights and build proofs of concept applicable to Nordea’s use cases.
  • Technical scoping and estimation for AI use cases.
  • Define and promote engineering best practices: code review standards, CI/CD, testing strategies and documentation.
  • Champion ethical, safe, and sustainable AI practices throughout the development lifecycle and across the organization.

Who you are

You will thrive in this role if you are excited to build AI solutions that solve real-world problems and drive meaningful change. You bring a growth mindset, collaborative problem-solving skills and excel at transforming complex technical concepts into clear solutions for both technical and non-technical audiences.

We are looking for someone with most of the following experience and skills:

  • BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics, or equivalent practical experience
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience architecting, developing and deploying applications or AI/ML solutions in production environments (not just prototypes)
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals with proficiency in Python and experience building scalable, maintainable codebases
  • Experience building agentic AI systems – autonomous agents that reason, plan and execute tasks –  and integrating them with tools, APIs and enterprise data via MCP or similar standards
  • Experience designing and deploying AI/ML solutions on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP), including containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud-native production patterns
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical teams and business stakeholders
  • Excellent collaboration skills and experience working with diverse teams including data scientists, engineers, and product stakeholders

It would be ideal if you also have:

  • Knowledge of agent testing methodologies, performance monitoring and maintaining agent reliability in production environments
  • Experience using agent development frameworks and harnesses such as LangGraph, Deep Agents, AutoGen, CrewAI or similar, including multi-agent coordination and sub-agent delegation
  • Experience using agentic AI tools like Claude Code/Cowork, OpenAI Codex
  • Professional experience working in regulated industries, e.g. banking, government, etc.

We encourage applications from candidates who are passionate about AI and meet most of these criteria. We value diverse perspectives and welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
