IBMi - Unix Platform Owner (permanent position)

Welcome to Group Technology, where we pride ourselves on engineering solutions and direct Nordea’s transformation by providing a holistic technological view and structured understanding of the bank, and its surrounding environment to enable the Customer Vision and the Business Strategy.

We are seeking a Strategic IBMi - Unix Platform Owner to take end-to-end accountability for our mission-critical, on-premise core compute ecosystem. In this role, you will define the roadmap, technical standards, and lifecycle management for our IBMi (AS/400) and enterprise Unix (primarily IBM AIX) footprints running on IBM Power hardware. You will bridge the gap between traditional enterprise computing and modern infrastructure methodologies, ensuring maximum reliability, security, and efficiency for systems that power our core business operations.

Nordea is a place where traditions meet tomorrow. We're not just a bank, we're a tech employer on a mission to evolve finance securely and responsibly. Together, we impact millions of people’s daily lives by ensuring they can access our solutions anytime, anywhere, while safeguarding their personal data and wealth. Join us in making an impact on the banking industry.

What you'll be doing

Main responsibilities in this role:

  • Platform Roadmap & Lifecycle Strategy: Define and execute the multi-year technical roadmap for IBM i and AIX environments; manage OS upgrades, Program Temporary Fixes (PTFs), Service Packs, and hardware generation refreshes.
  • Architecture & Resource Governance: Participate in Design, standardize, and maintain the architecture of Logical Partitions (LPARs) via HMC/PowerVM. Optimize processor shared pools, memory allocation, and virtual I/O (VIOS) mapping.
  • Automation & Modernization: Modernize platform management by introducing and enforcing infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and configuration management workflows using tools like Ansible for IBM i / AIX.
  • Security & Compliance Governance: Own platform hardening baselines. Ensure compliance with strict on-premise sector-specific regulations (e.g., SOX, DORA) and that OS layer meets strict on-premise regulatory, audit, and vulnerability patching SLAs.
  • Business Continuity & DR Strategy: Architect and validate robust High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions tailored to big-iron limitations, utilizing technologies such as PowerHA, BRMS, or hardware-based storage replication.
  • TCO & Vendor Management: Act as the primary technical interface for IBM and tier-1 partners; capacity-on-demand (CoD), and vendor support escalations.

Who you are

Your background and skills include:

  • IBM i (OS/400) Expertise: Deep knowledge of IBM i architecture, including work management, subsystem configuration, integrated DB2 for i databases, and advanced use of IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS).
  • Unix & PowerVM Expertise: Advanced proficiency in IBM AIX (or equivalent enterprise Unix like Oracle Solaris/ RHEL) and PowerVM virtualization (HMC, VIOS, Live Partition Mobility - LPM).
  • Enterprise Storage Integration: Strong understanding of connecting IBM Power platforms to enterprise SAN infrastructure, Fibre Channel fabrics, and storage-level replication (e.g., IBM FlashSystem/SVC).
  • Scripting & Automation: Experience with traditional CL (Control Language) or KornShell scripting, combined with a modern proficiency in Python or Ansible modules for IBM Power.
  • Infrastructure Product Ownership: Proven capability to run legacy/core infrastructure as a modern internal service—tracking Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), performance capacity metrics, and alignment with corporate strategy.
  • Strategic Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication skills to translate complex, low-level technical risks (e.g., microcode updates, single points of failure) into clear business risk/benefit assessments for executive leadership and collaborating across InfoSec, Network, and Applications teams.
  • Risk Mitigation & Change Governance: High emotional intelligence and technical confidence to manage low-risk-tolerance change management processes during critical system windows for 24/7/365 workloads. Partnering with Information Security to balance aggressive patching timelines with the Application teams' need for environment stability.
